NASHUA, IOWA - Raymond H. Jakel, 89, of Nashua, Iowa, died Saturday, October 18, 2014, at 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Nashua with Pastor Bill Nielson presiding.

Interment will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery in Nashua with Melissa Jakel, Larson Jones, Brittany Searle, Michael Searle, Dillon Searle, Casey Jakel, Dani Jakel, Amber Jakel, Kaleb Jakel, Kirsten Jakel and Kyle Jakel serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Wesley Wolf, Stanley Wolf, Roger Wolf, Dennis Wiebke, Dean Wiebke, David Wiebke, Kirk Plautz, Randy Sinnwell and Ken Haut.

Friends may greet the family from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21, at the Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home -- Olson Chapel in Nashua.

Raymond H. Jakel was born June 5, 1925, in Floyd County, Iowa, the son of Herman and Ella (Schroeder) Jakel. He went to country school and received his high school education from Nashua High School in 1941.

Raymond farmed west of Nashua until retirement when he moved into Nashua. Raymond was always active at St. John's Lutheran Church, where he was a lifetime member. Raymond served on the church council, stewardship, as Sunday school treasurer and on the EWALU board. He sold Archer Oil for over 40 years around the Nashua area. Raymond loved square dancing with Kathleen and Larraine. Gardening was one of his many passions, which included working on his hostas. He also enjoyed playing and teasing his nieces, nephews and grandchildren. He enjoyed attending local sporting events and traveling to visit his relatives.

Raymond is survived by two sons; Jeff Jakel of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Scott (Tamara) Jakel of Osage, Iowa; two daughters, Cynthia Jakel of Yuma, Arizona, and Judy Jakel of La Porte City, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Elaine Renning of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Verna Wiebke of Nashua, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Ella; two wives, Clara Kathleen in 1998 and Larraine in 2012; parents-in-law, Fred and Clara Plautz; sister, Lela Jakel and nephew, Larry Wolf.
