Louis J. Kolbet, 72, of Alta Vista, died of natural causes in his home on Saturday, July 6, 1996.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 9 at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Alta Vista with Rev. Roger R. Rethamel officiating. Interment was in Mt. Calvary Cemetery at Alta Vista. Conway Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Louis was born March 21, 1924 in Alta Vista, son of John and Caroline (Glaser) Kolbet. He was a graduate of St. Williams High School.

On April 14, 1956, Louis married Donna M. Rex at Immaculate Conception Church in Charles City. After their marriage, they moved to Alta Vista, where he was employed for 20 years by Sinnwell Elevator and later the Alta Vista Feed and Grain. He worked for several years at Farmers Lumber in Alta Vista until retiring. Louis was a member of St. Bernard's Church, the Catholic Order of Foresters, and had been a member of the Alta Vista Fire Department.

He is survived by his wife, Donna; five daughters: Susanna Gibson of Salt Lake City, UT, Janet Hennigar of Charles City, Wanda Folkers and Carmela Slick, both of Alta Vista, and Sheila Moritz of Osage; one son, Alan Kolbet of ALta Vista; 12 grandchildren, two step-great-granddaughters; three brothers: Leonard of Rockford, Luvern of Charles City, and Leo of Elma; and three sisters: Luella Phippen of Alta Vista, Lois McAvoy of Elma, and Lola Boss of Camanche.
