Obituary for Lowell Quirk--

William Lowell Quirk, age 90, of Rochester, Minnesota, and formerly of Lawler, Iowa, died Friday June 27, 2014, at Cottage Wood Senior Living in Rochester.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 5, 2014, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, Lawler, with Rev. Nick March celebrating the Mass.

Interment will be in the church cemetery with military honors by the Lawler American Legion.

Friends may greet the family an hour prior to the Mass at the church on Saturday.

Arrangements are with Hugeback Johnson Funeral Home in Lawler.

William Lowell Quirk was born July 15, 1923, the oldest of six children born to William and Marie (Canty) Quirk. He attended Mount Carmel Grade School and Lawler High School. Lowell graduated in 1940. He graduated from the University of Iowa in 1944 with a BS Degree in Electrical Engineering. After college he served in the US Naval Airforce as an electronics officer. He served in the Navy until 1947 and then was employed at electric switch company in Philadelphia until 1955.

In 1956 he begin his career with Honeywell in Hopkins, Minnesota. He worked in the Cost Estimating Department until his retirement in 1990. He enjoyed a number of hobbies, including flying his own plane and fishing on the Lake of the Woods. He was an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes basketball and football teams. He held football season tickets for over 50 years. He enjoyed gardening at his farm in Lawler and was an active participant at many political functions.

Lowell is survived by his daughter, Karen (Kevin) Most in Jamison, Pennsylvania; three grandchildren: Kristopher, Katherine and Kasey; two brothers; Thomas (Louise) Quirk of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Frank (Dorothy) Quirk of The Villages, Florida; sisters-in-law; Joan in Palm Springs and Mona in Prior Lake, Minnesota; and many nieces and nephews.

Lowell was preceded in death by his life-long companion, Barbara Erbe; his parents William and Marie Quirk, brother John Robert (Bob) Quirk and William (Squill) Quirk; one sister in infancy.
