Obituary for Mary C. Murray--

Mary C. Murray age 85 of Northfield, Minnesota, and formerly of Lawler, Iowa, died Saturday, January 7, 2012, at the Parkview West Assisted Living in Northfield, Minnesota.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 12, 2012, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, Lawler, with Rev. Marvin Salz celebrating the Mass. The pall will be placed on the casket by her seven children. The offertory gifts will be presented by Sara Miller, Kelly Mickelson, Abby Sheehy, Katie Yocum, Shannon Murray and Alison Harner.

Interment will be in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Cemetery, Lawler, with Sam Murray, Joe Sheehy, Ryan Murray, Patrick Murray, Tyler Murray, Nick Murray and Alec Harner serving as pallbearers. The Catholic Daughters of the Americas will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Friends may greet the family 3:00 – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 11, 2012, at Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home in New Hampton where there will be a 4:00 p.m. rosary and a 7:00 p.m. parish scripture service. Visitation continues an hour prior to the Mass at church on Thursday.

Mary Catherine Murray was born August 9, 1926, in New Hampton, IA, the daughter of Matthew and Margaret (Shanley) Kelly. She received her education in New Hampton and was a 1944 graduate of the New Hampton High School. On August 31, 1949, at the former St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Jerico, Iowa, she married Eugene Murray. The couple were blessed with eight children. Mary was a housewife and homemaker and later worked at the former J.C. Penney Store in New Hampton and then began working in the Chickasaw County Recorders Office where she served as the Recorder from 1980 until retiring in 1992. On January 3, 2001, Eugene Murray died at the age of 76. Mary had a love for baking and treasured the special times spent with her family.

Survivors include four daughters, Jane (Al) Kipp of Northfield, Minnesota, Peg (Mike) Crowley of Rosemount, Minnesota, Therese (Brad) Sheehy of East Bethel, Minnesota, Kathy Harner of Chicago; three sons, Dan (Millie) Murray of Decorah, John (Lori) Murray of New Hampton, Mark (Kristin) Murray of Centennial, Colorado; thirteen grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren; one sister, Agnes Nulty of Cedar Rapids; three sisters-in-law: Carol Kelly of Owatonna, Minnesota, Marlyn Murray of San Diego, California, and Shirley Murray of New Hampton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son Jerry Murray in infancy; and by two brothers, James Kelly and John Kelly.
