Obituary for Mavis I. Morriss--

Mavis Morriss age 80 of Fredericksburg, died Monday April 2, 2012, at the New Hampton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Funeral services are 11:00 a.m. Thursday April 5, 2012, at the Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home in Fredericksburg with Hugh Mackintosh officiating. Music for the service will be special CD’s of George Jones, "He Stopped Loving Her Today," "Softly and Tenderly" and "Amazing Grace."

Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Fredericksburg with Chad Morriss, Jared Morriss, Tonya Blasen, Kyle Foster, Kristopher Foster and Jerry Sterba as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Rylee Sievers and Joseph Blasen.

Friends may greet the family 5 – 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 4, 2012, at the Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home in Fredericksburg. Further visitation will be on hour prior to the service Thursday at the funeral home. 563-237-6212

Mavis Irene Morriss was born January 31, 1932 at Lake City, Iowa the daughter of Arthur and Irene (Frost) Toyne. She received her education in Lanesboro, Iowa graduating from Lanesboro High School in 1950.

On September 1, 1950, in Yuma, Arizona she was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Franklin Dean Morriss. To this union two sons and two daughters were born. The couple initially lived in San Diego while Frank was stationed in the United States Navy. In 1952, the couple moved briefly back to Lanesboro, Iowa followed by quite a few years in Humboldt before settling in Fredericksburg, Iowa. They also lived several years in Waverly.

Mavis loved fishing, crossword puzzles and reading. She will be remembered by her family for her quick wit and loving ways.

Mavis is survived by her husband of 61 years, Frank; two sons Larry (Ruth) Morriss of Fredericksburg and Gary Morriss of Forest City; two daughters, Pam (Jim) Foster of New Hampton and Sherri (Doug) Sievers of Des Moines; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild; two brothers, Merle (Eleanor) Toyne of Springfield, SD and Burton Toyne of Jefferson, Iowa; one sister, Aileen Gerdes of Pennsylvania.

She is preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Vera Johnston, Pat Henrichs, Irma Davenport and Mildred Henrichs; twin great-granddaughters.
