Obituary for Marilyn L. Schwickerath--
Marilyn L. Schwickerath, age 75, of North Washington, Iowa, died Saturday morning, June 2, 2012, at her home.
A Memorial Mass will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, North Washington with Rev. Mark Osterhaus celebrating the Mass. Lectors for the Mass include Becky Bohr, Tricia Juszczyck, and Katie Bohr. June and Ron Bohr will present the offertory gifts.
Interment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, North Washington, with Dale Schwickerath, Deb Schwickerath and Stacy Trower serving as urnbearers. Honorary urnbearers include Stacy Trower, Shaun Schwickerath, Samantha Schwickerath, Shannon Schwickerath, Becky Bohr, Tricia Juszczyck, Jared Bohr, Katie Bohr, Matt Rosenbaum, Carla Rosenbaum, Preston Trower, Addison Trower, Kamdyn Trower, Michaela Schwickerath, Amelia Reddel, and Alex Chevchuc.
Friends may greet the family 3:00 – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 5, 2012, at the Hugeback – Johnson Funeral Home, New Hampton where there will be a 4:00 p.m. rosary and a 5:00 p.m. parish scripture service. Visitation continues an hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
Marilyn Laura Schwickerath was born May 25, 1937, in New Hampton, the daughter of Raymond W. and Genevieve J. (Flick) Burgart. She was baptized and confirmed at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in North Washington and received her education at St. Mary’s School there.
On December 27, 1955, Marilyn was united in marriage to Gerald Schwickerath at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in North Washington. To this union three children were born June, Michael and Dale.
The couple briefly lived in Waterloo and then started farming south of Ionia for a short time before settling on their farm near North Washington. Marilyn loved working on the farm side-by-side with Gerald. She would rather be working outdoors tending to all the chores, her huge gardens and raising laying chickens. She enjoyed woodworking and made many items that her family cherishes today.
Beginning in 1985, Marilyn worked at Sara Lee until the plant closed in 2000. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Rosary Society, had volunteered cleaning the church and had served on the Parish Council.
Marilyn is survived by; daughter, June (Ron) Bohr of Riceville; two sons, Michael (Robin) Schwickerath of Ionia and Dale (Deb) Schwickerath of New Hampton; ten grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Luella Junko of Lawler, Jeanette (Al) Hegenbarth of Mason City; one brother, Ralph (Mary Pat) Burgart of North Washington.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Gerald on April 2, 2012,
