Obituary for E. Lucille Smith--

E. Lucille (Nourse) Smith, age 88, of Nashua, Iowa, died Saturday morning, September 1, 2012, at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 6, 2012, at the Congregational United Church of Christ, Nashua, with Rev. James Mann and Ben Sholl presiding. Interment will be in Willow Lawn Cemetery, Plainfield with Chad Smith, Casey Smith, Sara Shaw, Matt Hasenwinkel, Megan Hasenwinkel, Brooke Jones, Kelly Crouch, Shane Link, Cade Demro and Cole Demro serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Scot Demro and Alan Haskenwinkel. Military honors will be conducted by the Nashua V.F.W. Post.

Friends may greet the family 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 5, 2012, at the Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home in Nashua. Visitation continues an hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.

E. Lucille Smith was born November 24, 1923, in Minburn, Iowa, the daughter of Guy and Bertha (Smith) Nourse. She received her education near Minburn and was a graduate of the Washington Township High School in 1941. After high school, Lucille worked for a brief period at a munitions factory in Ankeny. On November 25, 1943, she enlisted into the United States Marine Corps. She served during World War II and was honorably discharged as a Sergeant on January 24, 1946.

Following her service to her country, she began working for a real estate office in Kansas City, MO. Lucille met Mark L. Smith after the war while they were working and going to school in Kansas City. The couple were married on November 30, 1947, at the Little Brown Church, Nashua. To this union three children were born. The couple lived in Waverly for a short time before moving to Nashua in 1949. She and her husband were co-owners of Smith Jewelry in Nashua and Smith Jewelers in Charles City for many years. Lucille enjoyed playing cards, golf, her church group, the Majels and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and Women’s Club.

Survivors include her husband, Mark; two daughters, Nancy (Alan) Hasenwinkel of Cedar Falls, Shirley (Scot) Demro of Nashua; ten grandchildren, Chad (Shayna) Smith of Clive, Iowa, Sara (Adam Streigel) of Windsor Heights, Iowa, Casey (Eric Burmeister) Smith of Des Moines, Matt Hasenwinkel of Des Moines, Megan (Mike) Hasenwinkel of Eagan, Minnesota, Brooke (Rhys) Jones of Woodinville, Washington, Kelly (Chris) Crouch of Davenport, Shane (Lischia) Link of Pembroke Pines, Florida, Cade Demro, Cole Demro both of Nashua; thirteen great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Gary Smith; one sister, Dorothy Brooks; two brothers, Verne Nourse and Russell Nourse.
