Obituary for Edna Hauser Kohls

Edna M. Hauser-Kohls age 88 of Greene, Iowa died Sunday, November 4, 2012, at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at St. John United Church of Christ-Pleasant Hill, rural Nashua with Pastor Jessica Margrave Schirm presiding.

Interment will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery with Kurt Lokenvitz, Dan Hillyer, Adam Hauser, Aaron Hauser, Andrew Hauser, Joel O'Brien, Jeremy Cole, and Matt Hauser serving as pallbearers.

Friends may greet the family 4:00 -7:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 6, 2012 at the Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home in Nashua. Visitation continues an hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.

Edna Martha Helen Hauser-Kohls was born June 29, 1924, just north of Nashua in Carrville, Iowa. She was the oldest child born to Alfred and Helen Vetter.

Edna attended rural country school in Carrville through the third grade and attended Butler School, west of Nashua through the sixth grade. She then attended the Young School and graduated from the Nashua High School. She enrolled at the Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, and took a job teaching at a rural school near her home.

She married Leonard Hauser on June 16, 1946, at St. John’s Church in Nashua. He passed away on July 29, 1990. Edna was later united in marriage to Art Kohls on February 14, 1998.

Edna cherished spending time with her family and friends. Whether it be hosting neighborhood coffees, marathon card games, or planning large family celebrations, she did it with endless energy. Her zest for life was contagious. She relaxed by baking bite sized cookies for EVERYONE and fishing with Art.

Survivors include her husband, Art; two sons, David (Carlene) Hauser of Allison, Iowa, and James (Penny) Hauser of Waverly; one step-son, Wayne (Jeanette) Kohls of Waterloo; five daughters, Jo Ann (Norman) Mest of Bettendorf, Delores (Darrell) Hillyer of Davenport, Jean (Jim) O’Brien of Greene, Carol (Bob) Cole of Greene, and Christal Butzin and fiancé Joseph Thiel of Bettendorf; one step-daughter, Betty Heidi of Waterloo; 16 grandchildren, Kurt Lokenvitz, Kelly Ohlweiler, Daniel Hillyer, Robin Tesch, Adam Hauser, Aaron Hauser, Andrew Hauser, Amy Johnson, Lori Risius, Melinda Hauser, Matthew Hauser, Heather Hauser, Joel O’Brien, Chaille Becker, Jeremy Cole and Cheyenne Steward; 29 great-grandchildren; 19 great-great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; two sisters, Marian (Jim) Large of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Helen Stonecypher of Charles City; one sister-in-law, Maxine Vetter of Charles City, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leonard; a brother, Ernest Vetter; son-in-law, Scott Wikner; granddaughter, Jamie Hauser and great-granddaughter, Faith Hauser.
