Obituary for Faythe J. Means

Faythe J. Means age 78 of Chandler, Arizona, formerly of Fredericksburg, died Monday, March 25, 2013, at Hospice of the Valley in Tempe, Arizona.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at the Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home in Fredericksburg with Hugh Mackintosh presiding.

Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Fredericksburg with Bethany Herman, Amy Husveth, Allison Carolan, Kristen Hanten, Eric Choudoir, Stephan Cook, Shaun Means serving as pallbearers.

Friends may greet the family beginning at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at the funeral home.

Faythe was born on December 21, 1934, the daughter of A.E. (Elam) and Lucille (Harford) Benner, on the farm home northeast of Fredericksburg. Faythe attended elementary at the Country School Stapleton Township #5. She graduated from Fredericksburg High School in 1952 and continued her education at Upper Iowa University, Fayette, Iowa.

Faythe married Warren Means and lived on the family farm located Northwest of Fredericksburg. Together, they raised 6 children. The couple later divorced.

Faythe served as Deputy Clerk of District Court, Chickasaw County from 1967-1982. She moved to Arizona and worked at a law firm in Tempe, Arizona, for 10 years. In July, 1990, she began work as a Tour Sales Representative for America West Airlines in Tempe, Arizona, retiring from America West in September 2000. Faythe continued to volunteer at the Sky Harbor Airport for America West Airlines, which later became US Airways through a merger. She also volunteered at their Corporate Headquarters and served as Secretary to the US Airways Retiree Board Phoenix Chapter for four years.

In April, 2001, Faythe began working for Mobile Onsite Mammography as a part-time Administrative Assistant, retiring December 2012.

Faythe loved to travel and traveled to several countries abroad. Her favorite vacation spot was Jekyll Island, Georgia, where her family vacationed while they were growing up. She loved the beach and history of the Golden Isles in Georgia. She also loved to collect Lighthouses. Faythe loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and is proud of all of their accomplishments.

Faythe is survived by her children, Patricia (Pat) Neuroth of Conrad, Iowa; Larry Means, Galveston, Texas; Rhonda (Steve) Plamann, Greenville, Wisconsin; Sherri (Steve) Carolan, Decorah, Iowa; Jeffrey Means, Davenport, Iowa; Carolyn Means, Montgomery, Texas; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Virginia Schneider; and a brother, William Benner.
