Obituary for Eugene A. Kottke

Eugene A. Kottke age 66 of Fredericksburg, Iowa died Wednesday, April 10, 2013, at his home.

Funeral services will be held 12:00 noon, Sunday, April 14, 2013, at Immanuel Lutheran Church - Crane Creek, rural Lawler with Pastor Vincent Fricke officiating. Verna Orvis accompanied the congregation on the organ.

Interment will be in St. John Cemetery, Boyd, rural New Hampton with Steve Flickenger, Steve Koester, Bob Volker, Don Prosser, Al Beier, Josh Biffar, Diane Trousiant and Jeremy Elbert serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Bridget Schaufenbuel, Benny Schaufenbuel, Cade Kottke, Quinn Kottke, Robert Hull and Karly Holland.

Friends may greet the family 3:00 - 6:00 p.m. Saturday, April 13, 2013, at the Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home in Fredericksburg. Visitation continues beginning at 11:00 a.m.Sunday at the church.

Eugene A. Kottke was born April 21, 1946, in New Hampton, Iowa, the son of Fred and Edna (Zieske) Kottke. He received his education in the District #1 rural country school and was a 1964 graduate of the Fredericksburg High School. In 1996, he received an Associates Degree in Business Management from the American Institute of Commerce in Waterloo.

Eugene lived his entire life in Fredericksburg. On November 27, 1965, at Our Lady Of Mt.Carmel Catholic Church in Lawler, he married Judy Urness. To this union three children were born. After high school he had worked a year for Harvey Westendorf and for the Fredericksburg Farmers Dairy and Butter. He began working at Chamberlain Manufacturing in Waterloo in 1966 and stayed there for 27 years. In 1996, he then began working for Aveka in Fredericksburg until 2001. He was currently working at Advanced Heat Treat in Waterloo.

Eugene loved his family first and foremost, especially his “grandbabies”. He also enjoyed black-powder deer hunting. He was a Whitetails and NRA member and enjoyed his guns. He took great enjoyment arguing politics with his friends.

Eugene loved his ‘Sunday-Drives’ with his wife and cooking from his Watkins Cookbook. He loved his tractors, his old pick up, feeding birds, his old mower, working in the yard, his church family, going to the grocery store and visiting with people everywhere. He will be missed by all.

Survivors include his wife, Judy; one daughter, Kelly (Bryan) Schaufenbuel of Fredericksburg; two sons, Korey (Sherry) Kottke of Carmichaels, Penna. and Kody (Tammy) Kottke of Fredericksburg; his beloved ‘grandbabies,’ Bridget and Benny Schaufenbuel, Cade and Quinn Kottke, Robert (Beth) Hull and Karly Holland; two sisters, Agnes (Clarence) Moore of Hansel, Iowa, and Virginia (Dave) Cutsforth of Waterloo; two brothers, Charlie (Pam) Kottke and James (Helen) Kottke, all of Fredericksburg; one sister-in-law, Jeanette Kottke of New Hampton; one aunt, Adeline Brown of Marshalltown; two brothers-in-law, Mick (Theresa) Urness of Fredericksburg and Tom (Jill) Urness of Sheboygan, Wisconsin; one sister-in-law, Rose (John) Schroyer of Prairie Du Chien, Wisconsin; several cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, John Kottke; aunts and uncles.
