Edwin J. Weigel, age 90, of New Hampton, Iowa passed away Wednesday, December 8, 2010 at New Hampton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in New Hampton.
Edwin Joseph Weigel was born June 6, 1920 to John William and Mathilda (Blaska) Weigel on the family farm north of New Hampton. He attended country school until he graduated the 12th grade from New Hampton High School. During these years he farmed on the family farm. On September 19, 1944 Edwin was united in marriage to Rose C. Schwickerath at St. Josephs Catholic Church in New Hampton. The couple farmed northeast of New Hampton until 1999 when they moved to New Hampton. Over the years Edwin raised hogs and cattle, and farmed. He belonged to the Iowa Pork Producers, Catholic Order of Foresters, and the Knights of Columbus. During his years of marriage the couple spent many memorable moments dancing, playing cards, traveling and spending time with family, which he enjoyed very much.
Edwin is survived by two daughters Audrey Conner of Charlotte, NC, and Madonna (Mark) Fohrman of Dover, MN; one son Andrew (Gloria) of Onalaska, WI along with eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Preceding his death was his loving wife of 56 years, Rose; his parents; one daughter, Alberta; one son, David; three sisters Emma Wild, Sister Mary Madonna Weigel, Stacia Hackman; two brothers Francis and Leo Weigel; one great-granddaughter, Morgan Jacobson and one great-grandson Edwin Alford.
Memorials may be directed to Edwin's family.
Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery at New Hampton.
Visitation will be on Monday, December 13, 2010 from 3 - 8pm at Conway-Kolbet Funeral Home in New Hampton, with a rosary at 4:00pm and a scriptural wake service at 7:00pm. Visitation will continue at St. Joseph's Gathering Space one hour before services on Tuesday.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30am on Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at Holy Family Parish - St. Joseph's Center in New Hampton with Fr. Mark Osterhaus celebrating.
