Obituary for Virginia Hoy
Virginia Hoy age 90 of Nashua died Wednesday, May 29, 2013, at her home.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 3, 2013, at St. John Lutheran Church, Nashua, with Pastor Alan Schulz officiating. Interment will be in the Cedar View Cemetery, rural Ionia, IA, with Allan Hoy, Arlen Hoy, Wayland Bean, John Steere, Nate Steere and Trace Steere serving as pallbearers.
Friends may greet the family 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. Sunday, June 2, 2013, at the Hugeback - Johnson Funeral Home in Nashua. Visitation continues an hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
Virginia L. Hoy was born August 14, 1922, in Charles City, Iowa, the daughter of Joe and Della (Schrader) Hansen. She received her education in rural country school near Pleasant Hill Church, west of Nashua. On August 3, 1941, in Charles City, she married Bernard Hoy. To this union two sons were born. Virginia loved working on the farm which she did her entire life. She enjoyed her peacocks, geese, sheep and other farm animals. She especially enjoyed her new white peacock. She enjoyed racking hay and seeding oats. For many years, she raised and sold strawberries. Virginia was very skilled at refinishing furniture for people in the surrounding area. Family gatherings were important to Virginia and she loved time with all her relatives. Bernard died on April 13, 1993, at the age of 74.
Survivors include two sons, Virgil Hoy of Nashua, Jerry (Judy) Hoy of Nashua; five grandchildren, Allan (Kim) Hoy of Mason City, Debbie Hoy of Charles City, Darla (Wayland) Bean of Ionia, Arlen (Shelley) Hoy of Marble Rock, Iowa; five great-grandchildren, Krystal (jeff) Grubb, Kelsie Hoy, LaMont Hoy, Riley Butters and Tanner Hoy; one great-great-grandson; Teegan Winfrey; one sister, Della Reeve of Waterloo.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and three sisters, Leora Paine, Esther Juhl and Lucille Dixon.
