Obituary for Kay D. Westervelt

Kay D. Westervelt age 75 of Nashua died peacefully Monday evening, June 10, 2013, at the University of Iowa Hospital, Iowa City.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 14, 2013, at the Hugeback - Johnson Funeral Home in Nashua with Rev. James Mann presiding.

Interment will be in St. Michael’s Cemetery Nashua, with Jerry Westervelt, Charlie Westervelt, Robbie Westervelt, Calvin Marcus, Bruce White, and Donald DeVries serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Janelle Wad, Madelyn Sonne, Lydia Seikfen, and Bill & Betty Wadey.

Friends may greet the family 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 14, 2013 at the Hugeback - Johnson Funeral Home.

Kay Dianne Westervelt was born October 2, 1937, in Floyd County, Iowa the daughter of Donald and Katherine (Dickhoff) Jones. She attended school in Nashua and graduated from Nashua High School in 1955. Shortly after school she was introduced to Lelon Westervelt. The couple was married on April 21, 1956 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Nashua. To this union three children were born. Lelon and Kay made Nashua their home, where Kay stayed home and raised the children.

Kay enjoyed many different types of sewing and embroidery. Every year she had a large garden she attended to. She always loved spending time visiting with friends and neighbors.

Survivors include two sons, Jeff (Linda) Westervelt of Cedar Falls, IA, Mike (Sue) Westervelt of Rudd, IA; three grandchildren, Robyn Westervelt, Kelly Campbell and Pat Campbell; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Dick (Diane) Jones of Waterloo, Iowa; one sister, Sue Vining of Forest City, Iowa; one brother-in-law, Robert (Donna) Westervelt of Nashua, Iowa; one sister-in-law, Sharon Westervelt of Shell Rock, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lelon; one daughter, Valarie Westervelt; two brother-in-laws, Paul Westervelt and Rich Westervelt; three sister-in-laws, Bernetta DeVries, Pearl Severson and Lavon Lantzky; one great-granddaughter, Tamara Campbell.
