Richard D. Slick, Sr., age 73, of New Hampton, passed away February 4, 2009 at Mercy Medical Center in New Hampton.

Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M., Monday, February 9, 2009 at Estel Perrin Avey Funeral Home in Marshalltown with Bobby Shomo officiating. Visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.

Richard was born January 12, 1936, in New Hampton, Iowa, the son of Elmer and Hazel Aimers Slick. He was raised in Fredericksburg where he attended high school. On April 23, 1955, Richard was united in marriage to Barbara Moody in Fredericksburg. While they resided in Fredericksburg, Richard was employed as a carpenter. Richard and Barbara resided in the Marshalltown area for a period of time working various jobs before moving back to New Hampton where he drove a truck and attended Area 1 in Calmar, completing a masonry course to become a mason.

Richard enjoyed spending time with his family, camping, playing cards, and visiting the Amish communities on the weekend. He also loved tinkering with just about anything.

Richard was very giving in his life, and that in his death he was able to donate his eyes to give two people their sight back.

Richard will be missed by his wife Barbara of New Hampton, children, Ricky (Donna) Slick of New Hampton, Richard Slick, Jr. of New Hampton, Loren (Carmela) Slick of Alta Vista, Gerard Slick of New Hampton, Pam (Pete) Moritz of Westgate, Stephanie Nystel of New Hampton, Judy (Matt Spafford) Feltz of Fredericksburg, Kelly (Mike) Henning of Sumner; 23 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, sisters, Jean (Louis) Westbrook of Cedar Rapids, Peggy Onken of Tuson, AZ ; brothers, Wayne (Joann) Slick of New Hampton, and Robert Slick of Fredericksburg

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Gloria Slick, granddaughter, Nichole Slick, grandson, Travis Slick, brothers Howard and Charles Slick; sisters, Algena Hatcher, Dorothy Griesert, Cleora Jordon, Joan Zeien, and Betty Peterman.
