Obituary for Ella M. Nelson--

Ella M. Nelson, age 95 of Fredericksburg, Iowa, died Tuesday, November 26, 2013, at Linn Haven Rehab and Healthcare in New Hampton.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 30, 2013, at Peace United Church of Christ, Fredericksburg with Pastor Burt Williams presiding. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Fredericksburg with Jeff Nelson, Nick Frohnauer, Andrew Kottke, Garrett Raum, T.J. Steege and Luke Steege serving as pallbearers.

Friends may greet the family an hour prior to the service at the church. Hugeback Johnson Funeral Home in Fredericksburg is in charge of arrangements.

Ella Martha Lydia Nelson was born December 1, 1917, in New Hampton, Iowa, the daughter of Theodore and Elizabeth (Mohling) Steege. She received her education in Fredericksburg and was a 1935 graduate of the Fredericksburg High School. Ella continued her education by attending nurses’ training in Marshalltown, Iowa. On May 7, 1939, at Peace United Church of Christ, Fredericksburg, she married Stanley Nelson. To this union two children were born. The couple made Fredericksburg their home and Ella worked at the former St. Joseph Hospital in New Hampton and the former Sunrise Guest Home in Fredericksburg.

Ella continued working as a care-giver for several families following her retirement. Her hobby was reading and she received many awards from the Upham Library. She was a lifelong member of the Peace United Church of Christ. Her caring ways will be forever missed.

Survivors include one son, David (Betty) Nelson of Waverly; four grandchildren, Jeff (Jennie) Nelson, Jennifer (Nick) Frohnauer, Lori Dawson and Andrew (Barbara) Kottke; five great-grandchildren, Claire Nelson, Lewis Nelson, Murphy Nelson, Jack Frohnauer, Abbie (Garrett) Raum; son-in-law, Charles (Pam) Kottke of Fredericksburg.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Stanley in 1980; a daughter, Linda Lee Kottke in 1980; two sisters, Olinda Weidler, Lenore Dresch; four brothers, Lawrence Steege, Everett Steege, Ted Steege and John Steege.
