Arlene T. Samec, age 86 of New Hampton, died on Sunday, February 17, 2008 at the New Hampton Nursing and Rehab Center in New Hampton.

Arlene Thelma (Torkelson) Samec was born February 2, 1922 in Military Township, Winneshiek County, Iowa to Leonard O. and Rose (Schweinefus) Torkelson. She attended country schools and one year of high school in Howard County. Arlene was united in marriage to Frank Samec on November 10, 1943 and to this union one daughter Barbara Rose was born.

After her marriage, Arlene and Frank farmed near Lawler and Ionia before moving into New Hampton where she has lived ever since. Arlene worked for many years as a cleaning lady and worked at Little Butchs Restaurant. She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in New Hampton. She spent numerous hours volunteering in nursing homes. She was an avid writer of poems and shared them in several books. Her loving and caring heart will be missed dearly.

Arlene is survived by daughter and son-in-law Barb and Marvin Winter; three grandchildren and spouses Cherice (Trent) Ogg of Ames, Iowa, Stacie (Justin) Shekleton of New Hampton and Chris (Tara) Winter of Waverly, Iowa; five great grandchildren Madison Ogg, Morgan Ogg, Kamryn Ogg, Joslyn Shekleton, and Gannon Shekleton; two sisters-in-law Marie Torkelson of New Hampton and Anna Samec of Cresco; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Frank who died October 23, 1991, brother Clarion, sister Alvina Hansen, sisters-in-law Mary Shock, Gladys Samec and Bertha Samec; brothers-in-law Jim Samec, Joe Samec and Bill Samec.

Burial will be in New Hampton Cemetery at New Hampton with Cherice Ogg, Trent Ogg, Stacie Shekleton, Justin Shekleton, Tara Winter and Chris Winter serving as casket bearers.

Visitation will be 3:00-7:00pm on Tuesday, February 19, 2008 at Conway-Kolbet Funeral Home in New Hampton and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.

Funeral services will be 10:30am on Wednesday, February 20, 2008 at Trinity Lutheran Church in New Hampton with Pastor Kevin Frey and Pastor Joel Dahlen officiating.
