Sylvia Nystel, age 89, of New Hampton, died on Monday, January 7, 2008 at Mercy Medical Center in New Hampton.
Sylvia Sylvine (Stansbery) Nystel was born September 14, 1918 to Ulysses and Anna (Roehrich) Stansbery in Mason City, Iowa. As a young girl she moved with her family to a farm w Hampton where she grew up. Sylvia attended country school in Chickasaw County. She was united in marriage to Edward Nystel on April 16, 1948 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Sylvia and Edward made their home in Lawler. In 1960 they moved to New Hampton where she has lived ever since. She entered the New Hampton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in 2002. Sylvia enjoyed embroidering, crocheting, playing cards and bingo. She loved to play guitar and harmonica at the same time. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
She is survived by one sister Rose Nystel of New Hampton; one brother Lawrence Stansbery of Waterloo; brother-in-law Raymond Nystel of New Hampton; niece Sue Wegner and husband Steve of New Hampton; nephew Marlin Nystel of New Hampton and numerous other nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Edward who died in 1997, two sisters Orella Schwickerath and Edna Maklenberg; and one brother Ervin Stansbery.
Burial will be in New Hampton Cemetery with her nephews, Marlin Nystel, Jim Lee, Ronald Olson, Glenn Nystel, Larry Stansbery and Irvin Nystel serving as casket bearers. Honorary casket bearers will be her nephews Roger Stansbery, Wayne Nystel, Rick Nystel, Duane Stansbery, Charlie Lee and Shawn Wegner.
Visitation for Sylvia will be from 3-7 PM Wednesday, January 10, 2008 at the Conway Kolbet Funeral Home at 115 N Broadway, and will continue at the church one hour prior to the service.
Funeral services will be 10:30 am on Thursday, January 10, 2008 at Trinity Lutheran Church in New Hampton with Pastor Kevin Frey and Pastor Joel Dahlen officiating. Edith Kolthoff will accompany Ruth Upham singing How Great Thou Art and the congregational hymns will be Rock of Ages and Children of the Heavenly Father.
