Raymond John Tiemessen, age 81, of New Hampton, died on Monday, Apr. 14, 2014 in New Hampton.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Apr. 21, 2014 at Immaculate Conception Church in North Washington, with Father Mark Osterhaus celebrating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery at North Washington, with grandchildren BJ Tiemessen, Danny Tiemessen, David Tiemessen, Cassandra Tiemessen, Danielle Tiemessen, Michelle Tiemessen, Christina Cole, and Jennifer Cole serving as casket bearers.
Visitation will be held 4-8 p.m. on Sunday, Apr. 20, 2014 at Conway-Markham Funeral Home in New Hampton, with a rosary at 4:30 p.m. and a scriptural wake service at 7:30 p.m. and will continue at the church one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Raymond John Tiemessen was born on January 12, 1933 to Benjamin and Catherine (Pierre) Tiemessen in New Hampton. He attended St. Mary’s School in North Washington, and helped on the family farm. Ray was united in marriage to Alice Sheridan on June 2, 1952 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Lawler. The couple made their home on the family farm one mile east of North Washington where they raised their family and have lived all of their married lives.
Ray enjoyed playing cards, Mennonite auctions, being with his family especially his grandchildren, gardening and wintering in Texas. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in North Washington, Catholic Order of Foresters, Monday Morning Coffee Club and the card group in Ionia.
He is survived by his wife Alice of New Hampton; children Dale (Linda) Tiemessen of New Hampton, Roger (Laurie) Tiemessen of New Hampton, Connie Ellswick of New Hampton, Gary (Cindy) Tiemessen of Bettendorf, IA and Sandy (Mark) Cloud of Anniston, AL; 12 grandchildren, four great grandchildren; and sister-in-law Mary (Virgil) Hillsman of New Hampton.
He is preceded in death by his parents Benjamin and Catherine Tiemessen; sister-in-law Margaret Joebgen and brother-in-law Patrick Sheridan.
