Joseph Brunais passed away Tuesday morning at 4 o'clock, after an illness of but a few days.

Mr. Brunais had been subject to serious sick spells every once in awhile for many years, and a few days ago he was taken with one from which he never rallied.

The following data we obtained from C.F. Jones, who nineteen years ago, on October 27, 1899, wrote it down at Mr. Brunais' request, at a time when the latter believed that he was dying, and which Mr. Jones has always preserved:

Joseph Brunais was born in District of Montreal, Canada, April 21, 1835, and in 1853 moved to Oswego, N.Y. On Sept. 27, 1857, he was married to Miss Emma Robarge, who preceded him to the better land Nov 2, 1898. On Jan. 15, 1861, Joseph Brunais enlisted in Co. B, Infantry 2nd Battalion, 16th New York Regulars (Capt. Jacob Kline's Co.) and served his country for three years, being discharged at Chattanooga on Jan. 14, 1867. During the time when he was in winter quarters at Chattanooga, his wife was with him in camp and it was there that their only son, Frank, was born.

From there he returned with his family to Oswego, NY, Jan 17, 1867. He left there in 1872 for Holyoke, Mass, where he remained until 1877, when he came to Chickasaw County, Iowa, where he has since resided. [They lived in the Nashua area.] About 10 years ago he was married to Mrs. Bray [Lucy Bray], who survives him. Seven children were born to his first marriage; one daughter, Mrs. Josephine Hall, of Hartford, Conn., died a few years ago, and those living are Frank, of Michigan, Mrs. Minnie Griswold, Julia Sibley, and Mrs. Emma Brunemeyer of Dakota; Mrs. E.E. Brooks and Mrs. Carl Peterson, of Nashua.

The deceased was well and favorably known in this community. He united with the Baptist Church in Plainfield, Feb. 28, 1886, and when the Baptist church was opened in this city he transferred his membership to this church. When there was no longer services at that place he joined the Congregational Church and was always a faithful attendant to whatever church he belonged. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Rev. Sinden officiating, and the GAR having charge of the services. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
