Dr. Walter Lloyd Stocks – June 5, 1894 – March 10, 1973
W. L. STOCKS, DENTIST HERE NERLY HALF A CENTURY, DIES AT 78
Dr. Walter L. Stocks, native son of the community and a practicing dentist in the community for 48 years was accorded last rites at 3 p.m. Tuesday in services conducted at the Chenoweth Funeral Home. He died about 7 p.m. Saturday at the hospital in Charles City at the age of 78.
The Rev. Ralph Wedeking pastor of the First Congregational church officiated. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery.
Pern French and Lucille Cronin were in charge of the flowers. Casket Bearers were Francis Nothsen, Henry Brandt, Dr. James Wick, Dr. Kenneth Hanson, John Cronin and Bruce Firman. The honorary casket bearers were Veterans of World War I. Military honors were paid at the graveside.
Walter Lloyd Stocks was born in Nashua June 5, 1894, the son of Arthur and Carrie Stocks. He graduated from Nashua High School in 1912, and from the University of Iowa in 1918 with a degree in Dental Surgery.
Following graduation he enlisted in the Armed Services and served in the Dental Corps at Base Hospital No 88 in France for 16 months.
He was a member of the first Congregational Church of Nashua and Thompson-Fisher Post of the American Legion.
He was preceded by his parents, a sister, and his first wife Pearl.
Survivors are his wife Nina, a son Arthur of Mason City, and his wife Jean, a daughter Jeanette of Nashua and two granddaughters, Susan and Sarah.
