"Aunt Rickie" Will Be 100 Saturday

FREDERICKSBURG - "Aunt Rickie" will be 100 years old Saturday.

Aunt Rickie is really Mrs. Ulreikie Duenow.

Why the nickname?

"I never had any children and I don't like to be called Grandma" she explains. So everyone who knows her well calls her Aunt Rickie.

Born in Germany she and her husband, newlyweds, came to Iowa when she was 21. She remembers the days of chopping wood by hand and shelling corn with a hand sheller. And she remembers the afternoons holding a pole and line sitting on the bank of a river indulging in her favorite hobby --- fishing.

Things are a bit quieter now. She spends her time reading the Bible, a church publication and the newspaper.

But for a little while Sunday things will be exciting once more. There'll be a birthday party for Aunt Rickie at the Riley Rest Home all day where she lives.

**** I wish my family had clipped the date on this article, too - but they didn't. To the best of my knowledge and family resources, she was born in 1858 and died on a Sunday, October 28, 1962
