Kenneth D. Wenck, 82, of 440 Ash, Cherokee, died Sunday Aug. 10, 2003 in the Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital, Cherokee, following a lengthy illness.
Services are at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Cherokee. Rev. Ray Hampton is officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Cherokee. Visitation is Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., with the family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Greenwood Funeral Home, Cherokee.
Kenny was born Jan. 23, 1921 in Glidden, to Daniel and Katherine (Beckman) Wenck. He attended school in Sioux Rapids, He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
On April 8, 1947 he married Wilma Hanson in Sioux Rapids. He bought and sold farm machinery in Sioux Rapids for four years. They moved to the Quimby area in 1951 and farmed there until 1968. He managed the Iowa State Liquor Store in Cherokee for 17 years, from 1968 - 1985.
He enjoyed his children and grandchildren, major league baseball, playing cards, and fishing.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Kirk Wenck and his wife, Marlyce, of Danville, Indiana; Kent Wenck and his wife Cheryle, of Cherokee; Michael Wenck of Cherokee; three daughters, Patty Brown and her husand, Jeff, of Cherokee; Krean Aduddell and her husband Kim, of Cherokee; Andrea Cook and her husband Richard of Cherokee; two sisters, Alvira Braesch, of Albert City; Darlene Caskey, and her husband, Lawrence of Sioux Rapids; 14 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Daniel and Archie, two sisters, Marjorie and Rena and one grandson, Michael Wenck.
