Leanord A. Wittkamp, 83, of Cherokee, died Friday, November 26, 1999 in Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital, Cherokee, following a brief illness.

He was born March 27, 1916 in Marathon, Iowa to Arthur and Mary Wittkamp. He attended schools in Cherokee. On November 19, 1949 he married Helen Svendsen in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She preceded him in death April 27, 1981. Leanord owned and operated Wittkamp Welding for several years. He worked in the powerhouse at the Cherokee Mental Health Institute from 1963 to 1981. He loved to hunt and fish and go for rides in his truck. Leanord served as a fireman with the Cherokee Fire Department from 1951 to 1965.

Survivors include 2 sons, John Wittkamp, and his wife Tammy, of Milford, Iowa; James Wittkamp, and his wife, Pat, of Spring, Texas; 2 daughters, Mari Jeanne Waterbeck, and her husband, Dennis, of Fort Worth, Texas; Carol Snapp, of Cherokee, Iowa; 2 grandsons, Jacob Wittkamp and his wife,Tara, of Milford, Iowa; Nicholas Wittkamp, of Spring, Texas; 1 granddaughter, Kristin Wittkamp, of Spring, Texas; 1 great-grandson, Trevor Jon Wittkamp, of Milford, Iowa; 1 brother, Kenneth Wittkamp, and his wife, Lotus, of Sioux City, Iowa; a special friend, Marcella Bierman, of Cherokee; a niece, Patty Keith.
