Josie G. Miles, 84 of Shelby, Montana and former Cherokee area
resident, died May 7, 1998 in Shelby following a five-year illness.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, May 23, at 10 a.m. at the
Oak Hill Cemetery in Cherokee, Iowa. Pastor John Marchand will offi-
ciate. Mrs Miles was cremated and there was no visitation.
Mrs. Miles was born September 7, 1913 in Cherokee to Lafayette
and Anna Grace (McLaughlin) Geasland. On November 9 1931 she
married Walter L. Miles. She had lived in Cherokee area most of her
life until moving to Montana 14 years ago. She worked as a companion
and caregiver to elderly people in their homes. She enjoyed cooking,
sewing, and quilt making.
Survivors include eight children: Walter Miles Jr., Cherokee;
William and his wife Pat, Commerce City, Colorado; Margaret
E. and her husband, Eldon Larson, Estervill, Iowa; Janet A. Watson,
Spencer, Iowa; Grace and her husband, Roy Lafrentz, Galva, Iowa;
Eva Booher, Cherokee; John D. Miles, Fort Worth Texas; and Patricia
A. and her husband, Howard Decker, Manitowoc, Wisconsin; 68 grand-
children; and many great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Walter;
three sisters.; and two brothers.(found at the Cherokee County Archives)
