Helen Quirk, 92, of Cherokee, Iowa, died Saturday, June 25, at the Cherokee Villa where she had been a resident since December of 1991.

Services will be held Tuesday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Cherokee. Committal services will be held on Tuesday at the Mount Zion Cemetery in Fonda, Iowa. A scripture service was held Monday and a rosary by the Catholic Daughters of America at Greenwood Funeral Home.

She was born April 24, 1902, in Fonda, Iowa to James and Margaret (Ryan) Quirk. She attended school in Fonda, Iowa. She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Morningside College, Sioux City, Iowa. She later earned her master's degree in elementary education and administration from Drake University, Des Moines, Iowa.

She taught in various Iowa schools and joined the Cherokee school system in 1946. She took over as elementary administrator for Cherokee schools in 1951 and held that position until her retirement July 8, 1969.

She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters of America, Retired Teachers Association, life member of the Iowa State Education Association and the National Education Association.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, 6 sisters and 1 brother. (Source: Darlene Cummins Pettengill scrapbook; Hand dated 6-28-1994)
