Lyle W. Booth, 76, of Cherokee, died Thursday, Oct. 2, 1997, in the St. Luke’s Medical Center in Sioux City, following a several month illness.Funeral services will be held today, Oct 6, from the Trinity Lutheran Church in Cherokee. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Aurelia. There will be military rites at graveside by L.A. Wescott Post #2253 of the VFW.
Lyle was born Oct. 22, 1920 at Marcus, to Charles M. and Mable (McCoun) Booth. He graduated from Quimby High School and then served for four years in the U.S. Navy. Upon returning from the Navy he operated Booth Electric Service, an automotive electrical repair shop. In 1950, he started an audio sound business. He was married to Gaylene Matzdorff on Sept. 12, 1953, at Jackson, Minn. He continued in the sound business until 1996 when he was forced to retire due to his health. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Cherokee, L.A. Wescott Post #2253 of the V.F.W., Treptow Post #230 of the American Legion, and the D.A.V.
He is survived by his wife, Gaylene; one sister, Irma Gano of Milford; one brother-in-law, Otto Jacobson of Ruthven, also many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Frank and Evan Booth; and three sisters, Mae Miller, Lois Jacobson, and Velma Hall. (Source: The Chronicle, Cherokee, IA, Mon., Oct 6, 1997, pg. 3)
