Mrs. Oren (Helen M.) Kelly, 78, Sutherland, died Jan. 29 in the Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital, Cherokee, of an apparent heart attack.

Funeral services were held Feb. 1 from the Church of Christ at Sutherland. Burial was in the Afton Township Cemetery, rural Cherokee.

She was born March 15, 1914, at Washburn, Miss. To Palice Tine Young and Cora Chadd Young. She moved to Afton Township at the age of five. She attended rural school in Afton Township. She married Oren E. Kelly on Jan. 25, 1933, in Cherokee. She had lived in Sutherland since 1968, prior to this on farms near Sutherland and Larrabee. She was a member of the Church of Christ at Sutherland and was a member of the bible study group. Her special love for her family was the focus of her life, extending to include her friends and neighbors of the community.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on Sept. 1, 1988; three brothers, Claude, Elbert and Clyde; two sisters, Ora and Monty; and one daughter, Margaret Gould on Nov. 26, 1973.

She is survived by two sons and one daughter, Richard Kelly and his wife Joann, Larrabee; Robert Kelly and his wife, Suzanne, Ames; Patricia Kelly, Ft. Collins, Colo. And 10 grandchildren, Suzanna Lawrence; Debra Clouten, Terry Gould; Tim Gould; Kathy Ahrendsen; Tom Kelly; Karla Marsh; David Steinert; Michael Steinert; Ryan Kelly; and eight great-grandchildren.
