Marvin Kohn, 71, Cherokee, died Jan. 22 in the Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital following a short illness.
Funeral services will be held Monday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee. Burial will be in the Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cherokee.
He was born April 12, 1921, in Rock Township, Cherokee County to Joseph and Gertrude (Henke) Kohn. He attended school in Quimby and graduated from Quimby High School in 1938. On Jan. 23, 1945, he married Martha Nilles in Remsen. He farmed west of Cherokee for many years and retired to Cherokee in 1984. He had been a resident of Cherokee County all of his life. He was a former board member of Farmer’s Co-op and was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He enjoyed golfing, gardening and fishing. He also was a member of the Neighborhood 500 Club which had played cards together the last 40 years.
He is survived by his wife, three sons, Joseph Kohn and his wife Joyce, Cherokee; Charles Kohn, Chicago, Ill.; Leo Kohn and his wife Theresa, Cherokee; three daughters, Mrs. Connie Olsen and her husband Gary, Cherokee; Mrs. Judy Gum and her husband Ray, Cherokee; Mrs. Kathy Thompson and her husband Church, Cherokee; 20 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Lorne Kohn and his wife Kitty, Cherokee; two sisters, Mrs. Lillian Garvin and her husband Edmund, Cherokee; one son-in-law, Gary Simmons, Cherokee; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Maureen Kohn, Cherokee.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, LuAnn Simmons in 1989; and one brother, Donald.
