Laura Norcille Jones, 79, of Cherokee died Thursday, Sept. 30, 1999, at Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital in Cherokee following a brief illness.

Services will be Saturday, with a family prayer service at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cherokee. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Jones was born Oct. 15, 1919, in Cherokee, the daughter of John and Edna (Allen) Johnson. She was confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She attended school in Cherokee and graduated from Wilson High School in 1937.

She married Claude P. “Mickey” Jones Jr. on June 22, 1941, in Cherokee. She was employed as a secretary in two attorneys’ offices. She was later employed in the office of the Clerk of the District Court as deputy and later as clerk. She retired in 1976 after 20 years in the clerk’s office. He died Dec 4, 1987. She had been a resident of Cherokee Villa for one and a half years.

She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday School, Bethlehem Daughters, Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church Association and Hawkeye Lodge.

Survivors include three daughters, Marilyn and her husband, Allen Burkhart of Fort Collins, Colo., Linda Brandt and her special friend, Doug Goebel of Cherokee and Conna Lou and her husband, Terry Graybill of Cherokee; and six grandchildren, Heath, Nathan and Bart Graybill, Matthew and Laura Ann Brandt and Bradley Burkhart.

She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant sister, Hazel Viola.
