Evelyn Neola Taylor, 80, of Sutherland, Iowa passed away Saturday, June 27, 1998, at the Marian Health Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

Memorial services will be today, June 30, at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Sutherland. Rev. Leroy Riemer will officiate with burial at a later date at the Cedar Cemetery at Larrabee, Iowa under the direction of the Gaudian-Eldridge Funeral Home of Paullina, Iowa.

Mrs. Taylor was born April 7, 1918, in Cherokee Township, Cherokee County, Iowa to Roscoe P. and Neola K. (Desm) Fessler. She lived at Larrabee and graduated from Larrabee Consolidated School in 1937. Iin 1938 she married Alvin F. Meyer in the Lutheran church in West Bend, Iowa. They were the parents of seven sons. The couple divorced in 1954. On July 18, 1954, she married Arthur W. Taylor in Cherokee, Iowa. They lived and farmed near Larrabee until moving to Sutherland in 1969. She worked as a dietitian and activity coordinator for 23 years at Cooper’s and Millie’s Rest Homes. She took a one-year course in accounting at Sheldon and worked at Group 21, then took a course through H & R Block and worked at Jacobson’s H & R Block for five years. She then joined the A.A.R.P. and IRS volunteer income tax service groups for 14 years in O’Brien County. She was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church, Sutherland, the Helping Hand of the church, the Federated Women’s Club, and the American Legion Auxiliary of Sutherland. She served on the Upper Des Moines Commission for O’Brien County for ten years and the S.O.S. Board for two years.

Survivors include her husband, Arthur; seven sons: Charles R. and his wife, Joani, Keystone Heights, Florida; Robert A. and his wife, Midge, Raymond, South Dakota; Kenneth L. and his wife JoAnn, Worthington, Minnesota; Floyd D. and his wife, Judith, Denton, Texas; James E. and his wife, Dorthy, Plainfield, Indiana; Alan L. and his wife, Patricia of Iowa; and Dennis N. and his wife, Jane, Platte City, Missouri; 19 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; a sister, Gladys Carver, Fremont, Nebraska; a brother, Floyd Fessler, Seattle, Washington; and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister, Alyce.
