Iver R. Johnson, 88, of Sioux City, Iowa, formerly of the Grand Meadow and Kingsley, Iowa area, passed away Wednesday, August 19, 1998, at St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center in Sioux City.

Funeral services will be today, August 22, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cherokee, Iowa. Burial will be in the Grand Meadow Cemetery, rural Washta, Iowa. A Masonic graveside service will be conducted by Cosmos Lodge #470 A.F. & A. M. of Kingsley.

Mr. Johnson was born August 18, 1910, in Manchester, Connecticut to A.B. and Emma (Carlson) Johnson who had recently immigrated from Halland, Sweden. He moved to the Grand Meadow Township area as a young child and lived and farmed there for 72 years. On June 23, 1941, he married Genette Larsen. They lived and farmed in the Grand Meadow and Kingsley area. She passed away in 1983. After his marriage to Vendalyn (Wertz) Santi on November 23, 1984, he moved to Sioux City.

He was a member of Cosmos Lodge #470 A.F. & A.M., Kingsley Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Free Masonry. He served as Past Master of the Kingsley Masonic Lodge, Cosmos Lodge # 470 A.F. & A.M., Past Worthy Patron of Eastern Star, Kingsley, and a Rainbow Dad. He served two terms on the Cherokee County Board of Supervisors, was a past board member of the Grand Meadow Heritage Center, was involved in farming and farm management and for many years was a successful livestock investor. He enjoyed traveling worldwide.

Survivors include his wife, Vendalyn; two daughters: Joell and her husband, Robert Brightfelt, Newark, Delaware; and Evonne and her husband, Thomas Smith, Houston, Texas; a grandson, Kyle Smith, San Antonio, Texas; a sister, Helen Amundson, Kansas City, Missouri; and a brother, John E. Johnson, North Carolina.

Memorials may be directed to the Iver Johnson Research Fund at the Siouxland Regional Cancer Center in Sioux City.
