Paul R. Jenness, 80, of Cherokee, died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001, at 9:10 p.m. in the Heartland Care Center in Marcus. Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 3, at 10:30 a.m. from the First Church of Christ in Cherokee. Mr. Gregg Johnson officiated. Burial was in the Afton Township Cemetery, rural Cherokee. Boothby Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Paul was born on March 23, 1920, at Quimby, to George and Eva (Athey) Jenness. He attended Quimby Schools. He was married to Maxine Cave on Feb. 15, 1944, in Sioux City. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army in the Philippines. He had worked for Christensen Bros. for 20 years retiring in 1982. He had been a resident of the Heartland Care Center for the past three years and prior to this was a long-time resident of Cherokee and a life-long resident of Cherokee County. He was a member of the First Church of Christ and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars L. A. Wescott Post #2253. He enjoyed going fishing and horseshoe pitching.
He is survived by two daughters, Paula Burch and her husband Paul of Cherokee; Peggy Rebhuhn and her husband Daniel of Storm Lake; three grandchildren Kory Burch of Ames; Jessica Plagman of Ames; and Katie Plagman of Storm Lake; one brother and one sister, Buster Jenness and his wife Dorothy of Cherokee; and Florence Jones of Eldora; a brother-in-law Wayne Cave and his wife Marlene of Cherokee; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.
