John Dale Jenness, 86, of rural Quimby, died Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2000, at 10:10 p.m. in the Country Side Estates, Cherokee.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 23 from the Quimby United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Cherokee. There will be a family prayer service at the church on Saturday. Visitation will be on Friday at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee with the family present in the evening.
He was born April 9, 1914, in Cherokee County, to John Charles and Duly (Dahlgren) Jenness. He graduated from Quimby High School. He was married to Lois Smith on Feb. 10, 1934, in Cherokee. Lois died May 18, 1994. He was married to Barbara Hunt on March 30, 1998, at Cherokee. He had lived and farmed near Quimby all his life. He was a member of the Quimby United Methodist Church, the Cherokee County Historical Society, a member of the Sioux Valley Scampers of the Good Sam R.V. Club, and the Family Coachman R. V. Club.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara; one son and two daughters, Jim Jenness of Marshall, Minn., Patricia Leslie and her husband Jerry of Omaha, Neb., Marcella Keys and her husband Jack of Morgan, Texas; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; four stepsons, Merlin Hunt and his wife Jerri of Cherokee, Darwin Hunt of Calumet, Mark Hunt and his wife Teresa of Holstein, Elmer Hunt and his wife Cindy of Moses Lake, Wash.; 11 step-grandchildren; one sister, Audrey Houseberg of Commanche.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lois, on May 18, 1994; a grandson, Scott Leslie; a granddaughter, Michelle Leslie and a sister Grace Cline. (Source: Former Cherokee Genealogical Society scrapbook clipping dated 12-21-2000)
