Dr. C. E. Broderick, Former Newton Physician, Dies
Funeral services for Dr. Clarence E. Broderick, 82, of Cherokee, a former Newton resident and physician, were held recently at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee.
He died recently at his home in Cherokee.
Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. David (Hermine) Palmer of Marietta, Ga., and Mrs. Howard (Madeleine) Wittenberg of Moraga, Calif.; and three grandchildren.
Dr. Broderick, who was born Jan. 29, 1893 in Mason City, attended Newton Community Schools, was graduated from the University of Iowa at Iowa City in 1916 and the university’s college of medicine in 1918.
Following graduation, he practiced in Newton.
He returned to school in Vienna, Austria, taking special training in eye, ear, nose and throat. Following his additional training, he established a practice in Cherokee in 1925, retiring in 1967.
He was married to Ona Irene Kating of Newton June 5, 1926. She preceded him in death Aug. 30, 1974.
