Mrs. Jean Gray was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, June 5, 1834, and died at 5:15 a.m. Dec 1, 1919.

When two and one-half years of age her family moved to Ontario, Canada. In 1863 she was united in marriage with John Paterson at Nichol, Ontario. The early part of their married life was spent on a farm near Listowel, Ontario.

To them were born six children, four girls and two boys. Katie is still at home; Mrs. W. D. Paterson resides in Cherokee; David Paterson in Chicago, IL; Mrs. E. J. Heller in Sioux Falls, S.D.; Thomas G. Paterson in Memphis, Tenn.; Mrs. J. J. Cramer near Marcus, Iowa.

In 1880 Mr. and Mrs. Paterson with their family removed to Cherokee where they have since made their home.

Mrs. Paterson was raised a Presbyterian, her father being an elder in that church for thirty years. In 1875, with her husband, she joined the Children of Zion church. Two years ago she made her consecration and united with the International Bible Students of America, in which she died a devoted and consistent member. She retained her mental faculties till the last and all through her life her consideration for others and utter forgetfulness of self was remarkable.

The funeral was conducted from the residence at 10:30 a.m. Dec. 4th. The services were conducted by Edward Edinger of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Mrs. Kendall Nelson sang two solos during the service. There were many beautiful floral offerings sent by friends.
