MARCU S - John R. (Dick) Holmes, 70, Marcus, died Sunday at Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital, Cherokee, after a lengthy illness.

He had been a resident of this community all of his life.

Mr. Holmes was born Dec. 10, 1904, in Marcus. On June 3, 1930, he married Nina Hillmer in Sioux Center.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Richard, Marcus; a daughter, Mrs. George (Betty) Wheeler, Marcus; four grandchildren; brothers, Ellis Holmes, Marcus, and Howard Holmes, Malaga, Wash., and a sister, Mrs. Ruby Berryman, Avoca, Iowa

Private funeral service s will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Nelson-Mauer Funeral Home here. The Rev. F. W. Shreve will officiate.

Burial will be in the Marcus-Amherst Cemetery
