DIED: Mrs. Ida Opdale, nee Miss Ida Kellogg, Tuesday evening at 9 o'clock December 6, 1881 at the Fountain House in the 26th year of her age.
The early settlers of Cherokee will remember her as a bright and sunny miss; a talented and esteemed teacher, an accomplished young lady and an exemplary wife and mother.
Her home, both at her father's, Attorney H. C. Kellogg, and with her husband, John Opdale, has been bright and cheerful; ever a haven of love and affection; yet for several years past she has carried many burdens not her own, and will be remembered by many as an angel of mercy bringing good gifts to the poor and needy. She was for years a beloved and respected member of the Congregational Church, active in all church work, had a full rich round voice and for years was a great musical favorite.
She leaves two babies and a husband who suffers an irreparable loss. Her heart broken husband, her grief stricken father, her sorrowing brothers and sisters and her wilderness of friends have the sympathy of all.
The funeral services will take place from the Methodist Episcopal Church Thursday, December 9 at 2 o'clock p.m.Source: Iowa Free Press (Cherokee, IA) December 6, 1881, Pg. 3
