A resident of Cherokee county for 60 years, Mrs. S.S. Daniels, died at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Halstrom at Paulina June 23.
Mary Ellen Sage, daughter of Mark and Mary Ellen Guest Sage, was born in Beverly, Mass., April 11, 1860. Being at the time of her death, 85 years, 2 months and 12 days of age.
She was married to Nehemiah Carpenter May 1, 1880. Three children were born to this union. Mr. Carpenter passed away June 9, 1888.
Mrs. Carpenter was united in marriage with S.S. Daniels April 3, 1890. Three daughters were born to this union.
Mr. and Mrs. Daniels lived on a farm in Cherokee county until about 40 years ago when they moved to Larrabee where they lived until the death of Mr. Daniels in December of 1940.
Mrs. Daniels made her home the past four years with her daughters and son-in-laws. Mr and Mrs. J. E. Pauline of Fort Dodge, Ia., and with Mr. and Mrs. Halstrom.
One son, Frank W. Carpenter and one step-son, Leon S. Daniels, preceded her in death. Those surviving are her daughters; Mrs. Mable E. Daniels of Sanborn, Ia., Mrs. Alice J. Burns of Washington, Minn., Mrs. Adelaide M. Paulin, Fort Dodge, Iowa, Mrs. Edna O. Halstrom, Paullina, Ia., Mrs. Jettie O. Lyons, Los Angeles, Calif.; a step-daughter, Mr. Ora E. Culbertson, Seattle, Wash.; a step-son, V.S. Daniels, Sanborn, Ia.; two sisters, Mrs. G. W. Simmons, Algona, Ia.; and Mrs. J. J. Grogan, St. Lawrence, S.D. Thirty grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, besides nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends also survive.
Services were held at the Oak Dale church. Rev. C. Kallberg was in charge.
Mrs. Elmer Lundell and Mrs. Roy Lundell sang "Face to Face" and "The City Four Square."
Mrs. Daniels was carried to her last resting place by the former Larrabee neighbors: George Nitz, Harvey Hockens, Welby Wilcoxen, Claude deSt. Paer, David Johnston, Jess Ware.
Relatives and friends from away were Mr. and Mrs. J.F. Paulin, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Paulin and Mrs. F.F. Peterson of Fort Dodge, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Burns and Thomas Burns of Worthington, Minn.,; Mrs. V.S. Daniels, Mrs. Joseph Kee, Mrs. C. Cummings, Mrs. Jas. Burns, and Mrs. Tom Joyce of Sanborn, Ia.; Mrs. Frank Beach and Miss Ida Riley of West Bend; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ackerman and Janet Lou Sage of Burt, Ia.; Mr. and Mrs. W.O. Dailey and Mrs. C.S. Fulton of Cherokee, Ia.,; Mrs. David King of Algona, Ia.
