MARCUS, Iowa — Henry Edward Carol Rieper, 91, of Marcus died Friday, May 5, 2000, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Peace Lutheran Church in Marcus with the Rev. James Gruber officiating. Burial will be in Marcus-Amherst Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today at the Earnest & Roethler Funeral Chapel, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.

Mr. Rieper was born Oct. 16, 1908, in Wellsville, MO., the son of Charles and Emma (Wickline) Rieper. He was baptized in the Lutheran faith and confirmed on April 5, 1925, at the Evangelical Lutheran Trinity Congregation in Wellsville. He grew up near Wellsville and attended rural schools. He came to the Marcus, Iowa, area in the 1920s. He married Verna Ohlendorf on May 17, 1933, in Ponca, Neb. They lived in Missouri from 1936 to 1946 before moving back to the Marcus area and farmed for several years south of Marcus. He retired in 1971 and moved into Marcus.

During his retirement he worked for Wetherell Manufacturing in Cleghorn, Iowa, and did custom woodworking. He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife; a son and his wife, Durward and Beverly of Hudson, S.D.; a daughter and her husband, Joan and James Potts of Hudson, Wis.; six grandchildren, Charles, Robert, James, and William Rieper, Lisa Staaf and Julie Anderson; five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother and five sisters.

Pallbearers will be Charles, Robert, James, and William Rieper, Darrell Downs and Carl Mayer.
