Cherokee county has passed on Mrs. James A. Henderson answering the final call at 10:00, o'clock Monday evening at the home of her son-in-law, Wm. Shardlow, 345 East Cedar street, where she had made her home since, the death of
her daughter, Mrs. Shardlow; some months ago.

Mrs. Henderson had been a resident of the county since 1870, coming here as a bride from Postville,
Winneshiek county, where she was united in marriage with James A. Henderson on January 11 of that, year. They settled first in Cedar township, where they were engaged in farming for ten years or so, moving to Cherokee in the early '80's and thereafter making this city their, home. They saw
the city develop from a small village into one of most thriving small cities of the state. Mr. Henderson, who was a nephew of Col D. B. Henderson, for many years congressman from the Third Iowa district and at one time speaker of
the national house of representatives, took an active part in public affairs locally and served the community for some years as postmaster.

Mrs. Henderson, whose maiden name was Helen Kerr, was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Kerr, and. was born at Rockford, I11, Jan. 27, 1851. Her parents moved to Postville when she was a small child; and it was there that she and Mr. Henderson were united in marriage in January, 1870, leaving at once to make a new home in this northwest prairie section. To them were born four children— Mrs. Shardlow, who passed away some months ago at her home in this city: Mrs. Kate Mcintosh of Linden, Minn; Miss Mae, at home, and one son, Fred, who, with a playmate, met a tragic
death, when about ten years of age, being smothered in a grain bin of his father's elevator, in which the boys were playing, in 1883.

Mrs. Henderson was one of the charter members of the Congregational church of this city, and later
united with the Presbyterian church, of which she had been a faithful member for many years.

Funeral services will be held from the Presbyterian church at 10:00 o'clock, Thursday morning, with Rev. R. C. Mitchell, the pastor,
in charge.
