Granville Seeley Dead

Granville Seeley, age 66, dead at 10 o'clock Friday evening. The funeral was held yesterday afternoon at the Christian church, Rev. Baier preaching the sermon. Interment was made in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Obituary

Granville Seeley was born was born in Stephenson County, Ill., Sept. 7, 1855, and 66 years, 5 months, and 5 days old at the time of his death. At the age of 19 he came with his parents to Benton County, Iowa, were he was married to Miss Carrie Hesser in 1878. Death claimed his wife two years later and he was left with one son, Robert, who is now living in Salem, S. Dak.
Shortly after the death of his companion he came to Cherokee County, and settled on a farm in Liberty Twp. On Feb 8, 1887, he was married to Loretta Noble of Cleghorn. To this union were born two children Mrs. Olive Verplog of Oskalooska and Orley of Cleghorn.
Twenty years ago he with his family moved into Cherokee, where he has since resided. He died Friday evening, Feb. 10, 1922. Besides his wife, two sons and a daughter are left to mourn his loss. Six grandchildren, three brothers and two sisters. He united with the Church of Christ some 40 years ago and remained an active worker as long as physical strength permitted him to do so.
Funeral services were conducted from the Christian Church Sunday, at 2:30, by his pastor, Rev. William Baier. Not withstanding the inclemency of the weather the church with filled with relatives and friends, who gathered to pay their last respects. Mr. Seeley was an upright citizen, a man who always took his stand on the side of right and was respected by all who knew him. He was know as a man of sterling character and honesty, and no man in Cherokee County was held in higher esteem. The remains were laid to rest in Oak Hill Cemetery.
The Chief extends its sincere sympathy to the afflicted relatives.
