Obituary for Opal Menefee Cave

Opal Menefee, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Menefee, was born in Afton Township on May 26, 1884. She grew to womanhood there and on February 23, 1910, was united in marriage to Leland F. Cave. To this union was born one daughter, Mildred, now Mrs. John Patterson.

With the exception of the past six years in Cherokee, Mrs. Cave lived her life in Afton Township. It was there that she confessed her faith and united with the Methodist Church in 1909. Through the years, she has been true to her vows and has continually grown in the knowledge and love of her Lord. That spiritual fellowship found expression in untiring service especially to the sick and shut-in. For a number of those who are confined to their homes and their beds today this is an hour of great loss.

For her large circle of friends, whether sick or well, her outstanding quality of personality was a cheerful, happy disposition. As one friend expressed it, "She enjoyed living."

In the various groups to which she belonged she could always be counted on to do more than her share, and her home was ever open when they needed a place to meet. Among those groups were the Woman's Relief Corps, the Pythian Sisters, Needle and I Club, and the Women's Society of Christian Service and Ruth Circle.

Her motto might well have been: "I live for those who love me, For those who hold me true; For the heavens that smile above me And wait my coming too."

On Tuesday morning, January 24, she slipped on the icy steps at her home and broke her left limb above the knee. There followed anxious days but gradually her condition improved and her loved ones and friends felt greatly encouraged. She seemed in exceptionally good spirits last Friday but that evening her tired heart gave out and the angel of life eternal ushered her spirit into the Father's house of many mansions.

Besides her daughter, she is survived by a sister, Mrs. William Sleezer of Cherokee, a brother, McKinley Menefee of Aurelia, a granddaughter, Jean Mildred, and many other relatives and friends.

"She is not dead, this friend. Not dead, But in the path we mortals tread; Got some few trifling steps ahead And nearer to the end. So that we, too, once past the bend, Shall meet again, as face to face, This friend we fancy dead."

Card of Thanks
Our heartfelt thanks to all who extended comforting sympathy and help in our recent sorrow. For the beautiful flowers and memorials and other kindnesses, we are deeply grateful. Mr. and Mrs. John Patterson and Jean.
