Obituary Of George Washington Cave

George Cave was born in Washington County, Ohio March 18, 1848.

He passed away at his home near Cherokee August 9th, 1924 at the age of 76 years, 4 months and 21 days.

When at the age of 16 years he enlisted in the Civil War in the year 1864, Company 7 Battery of Indiana Artillery and served until the war was over and was honorably discharged the twentieth day July, 1865.

He came from Ohio to Ogle County, Illinois in the year of 1872 where he continued to live for a few years. He was united in marriage to Miss (Martha) Alice Ogle of Illinois in May 1874.

In 1878 he with his family emigrated over land from Illinois to Cherokee County, Iowa and has continued to live in this county ever since with the exception of ten years that was spent on farms in different parts of Buena Vista County.

He leaves to mourn his wife, five sons and two daughters Wm (William) of Storm Lake, J H (James), L F (Leland), F E (Frank) and Purl all of Cherokee County, Mrs. Will (Edith) Coddington of Sutherland and Mrs. Claud (Grace) Young at home and also 15 grandchildren. He has one brother and one sister who reside in Ohio.

He was a faithful husband, a loving father and a kind friend to all who knew him.

Funeral services were held at the home Monday August 11th at 2 p.m. conducted by Reverend G. Gilbert of Aurelia.

His comrades attended the last sad rites and held short services at the grave.

Interment was made at the Afton Cemetery.
