Last week's Elk Point Leader Courier published the following account of the life and death of a former Akron girl:

Alice McSloy was born on June 18, 1898, at Akron, Iowa, to parents, Major and Jennie Woods Barr. When a small child she moved with the family to Elk Point, where she grew to womanhood. She passed away suddenly at her home in Tempe, Ariz., July 2, 1948. Alice was a graduate of the Elk Point High School and of the Yankton college, where she majored in voice. She was married to Dean McSloy at Yankton in June, 1927. He was a teacher in the Rapid City High School. They moved to Evanston, Ill. in 1931, where he was an instructor in Northwestern university, moving to Tempe, Ariz., in September, 1947. Mrs. McSloy was a talented singer. She led church choirs in local churches and taught voice while a resident of Evanston.

She leaves her husband, two daughters, Jane and Martha; her mother, Mrs. Jennie Barr, of California; two sisters, Pearl Weiland, of Denver, Colo., and Dorothy Jane Kalinauskis, of Biloxi, Miss.; two brothers,
Delbert Barr, of Pullerton, Cal., and Harley Barr, of Vallejo, Cal.

Her father and two brothers preceded her in death. Burial was at Tempe, Ariz..
