Last Sad Rites For John H. Dunn Held

Body of Pioneer Resident
Resident Arrived Saturday from Los AngelesServices for John H. Dunn, age 75 years were held at Holy Name church on Monday morning, beginning at 9 o'clock, with Rev. George Cook officiating at Requiem Mass. The choir sang two beautiful hymns and Leo Wendt sang a solo, "Give Me Thy Heart." Miss Regina McLaughlin, organist, played the accompaniments. The pall bearers were John Meehan, Thomas Meehan, Harry Mich, S. Londergan, T.E. Herbert and J.E.Walsh.
Mr. Dunn has spent the past year in Sioux City, living in the Rutland hotel. He has been in failing health and thought the warm climate of southern California would renew his vigor. With this thought in view he departed for San Diego, arriving there on New Year's day. He remained only three or four days and upon becoming very ill, went to Los Angeles, where he has two brothers, Micheal and Edward Dunn and also a niece. Instead of going to the home of relatives, he went to a hotel and during his brief illness, near one administered unto him. Mr. Dunn passed away sometime during the night of Friday, Jan. 7, his lifeless body being found the following morning. The remains were shipped and arrived in Marcus last Saturday morning.
Those attending the furneral service from away included: Mr. and Mrs. William Smith, of New Hampton; Mr. and Mrs. John Smith, Primghar; Mr. and Mrs. Richard Black, Morningside, Sioux City; Harry Black, Mr. and Mrs. Rietz and Mr. and Miss Sullivan, all of Sioux City, and George White, of Ireton.

Born at Shullsburg, Wisconsin, in the year 1852, John H. Dunn grew to manhood at that place. at the age of 20 years he was united in marriage to Miss Adelade White, she passing away 29 years ago. Mr. Dunn followed the occupation of farming for many years and resided in the vicinity fo Marcus for about 30 years.Ten children survived their father and are as follows: Walter, Frank, Barney, Charles and Clarence and five daughters, Mrs. Chas Mooney, Sheffield; Mrs. Will Smith, Primghar; Mrs. Florence Tracey, Bengal Canada; and Mrs. Henry Smith, Marcus. Also four brothers and one sister, Michael and Edward of Los Angeles, Calif.; James, of Marion, Iowa, and Richard, of Mitchell, S.D. and Mrs. James Black also of Mitchell.
