Leroy Neustrom, 84, of Cherokee and Marcus, Iowa died Friday, September 11, 2009 in the Walnut Creek Hospital, near Valencia, California, following a brief illness.
Funeral services will be held Friday. September 18, 2009 at 3:30 P.M. at the Greenwood Funeral Home, Cherokee, Iowa. Msgr. Kenneth Seifried will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Cherokee, Iowa. Visitation will be Friday from 10:00 a.m. to service time with the family present from 1:30 P.M. to 3:30 P.M. Leroy was born on January 18, 1925 in Anthon, Iowa. to William and Marjorie (Carr) Neustrom, He attended school in the Danbury school system. The family moved to Marcus, Iowa, following the death of their mother. Leroy served in the U.S. Navy from 1944-1946. Following his military service, Leroy remained in California and worked for Marin County, in California for 30+ years.
Survivors include sons Daniel Neustrom, of San Diego, California, and Gary Neustrom, of San Mateo, California; grandsons Philip Neustrom, of San Francisco, California, and Andrew Neustrom, of Eugene, Oregon; brothers John “Jack” Neustrom, of Venetia, California; Will Neustrom, and his wife, Rita, of Hamilton, Montana; a brother-in-law J.B. Comeaux, of New Iberia, Louisiana; sisters-in-law Mary Neustrom, of Eureka, California and Judy Buss, of Cherokee, Iowa; nieces and nephews Barb Timmins, Cindy Sizeland, Mick Bakker, Dale Bakker, Jr, Todd Neustrom.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter Dawn in 1993; brothers Thomas, Owen, Charles and Wayne; sisters Maureen Comeaux and Patricia Bakker.
