Robert H. Schroeder, 87, of Cherokee, passed on March 9, 2009 at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center following lengthy illness.

Funeral services were held on March 14 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cherokee, with Pastor Larry Lemke officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery in Cherokee. There were military rites at the cemetery by the V.F.W. Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee was in charge of arrangements.

Robert was born Oct. 7, 1921 in Plymouth County to Claus and Rose (Grauer) Schroeder. He was baptized May 21, 1922 and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith on March 21, 1937. He attended Marcus Community Schools, and entered the military service in September of 1942 . He was discharged in January of 1946.

Robert married Gladys Schwenn on May 21, 1943, at the Air Force Base in Greenville, Mississippi. He operated a trucking business from 1946 until 1951, and in 1951 started farming. In 1961, he bought a farm northwest of Quimby and farmed there until his retirement in 1983. He continued living on the farm until moving to Cherokee in 1989.

Robert enjoyed playing dartball and doing woodworking projects. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cherokee and belonged to various church groups.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters Dorothy Ogren and Lorraine Schouten.

Robert is survived by his wife, Gladys, one sister, Fern Brandt of Overland Park, Kan. and several nieces and nephews.
