MARJORIE C. HICKS
(August 6, 1916 - February 6, 2009)

MARJORIE C. HICKS, 92, of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away Friday evening, February 6, 2009, in the Cherokee Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 11th, at 11 a.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. Rev. Magrey deVega will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Cherokee, Iowa at a later date. There will be a family prayer service at 10:45 a.m. at the funeral home on Wednesday. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. with the family present from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. There will be Eastern Star services on Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home. Online condolences can be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com

Marjorie was born on August 6, 1916 at Des Moines, Iowa to James M. and Cecyl (Crosier) Casey. She graduated from Cherokee Wilson High School in 1934. She was married to Dale R. Hicks on August 21, 1938 at Elk Point, South Dakota. Marge had worked in the office of Swanson’s Grocery Store for 5 years and was the accountant for the Cherokee School Board for 10 years, retiring in 1979. She was a longtime member of the St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, belonging for 80 years. Marge was a 70 year member the Order of Eastern Star and a member of Past Matron’s. She was also a member of the Pythian Sister’s in Cherokee and Aurelia, a member of Hawkeye Lodge, and belonged to the Happy Hooker Crochet Club. She enjoyed crocheting and reading.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Dale on October 25, 1999.

She is survived by one son and one daughter: Robert D. Hicks and his wife Judy of Charlo, Montana; Carol Rumohr and her husband Emil of Royal, Iowa; a daughter-in-law Sandy Hicks of Juneau, Alaska; 4 grandchildren: Laura Rumohr of Vermillion, South Dakota; Dale G. and Kristi Hicks of Juneau, Alaska; Lisa and Christopher Schwartz of Sitka, Alaska; Vicki and Dwayne Nehring of Royal, Iowa; 5 great grandchildren: Rebecca and Jamie Tomlinson, Ryan Hicks, Renee and Sarah Nehring; 3 great great grandchildren: AudreyAnna, Michael and Karmen; several step-grandchildren and several step-great grandchildren.
