Carol L. Wegner, 64, of Cherokee, Iowa died Wednesday October 8, 2008 in the North Valley Health and Rehabilitation Center, Thornton, Colorado after a lengthy illness.

Funeral services will be held Friday October 17, 2008 at 10:30 A.M. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Cherokee, Iowa. Rev. Armand Bertrand and Rev. Richard Ries will officiate. Burial will be in the Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cherokee, Iowa. Visitation will be Thursday from 9:00 A.M to 8:00 P.M. with a scripture service at 7:00 P.M. at the Greenwood Funeral Home, Cherokee, Iowa. Carol was born on September 2, 1944 in Oskaloosa, Iowa to Lloyd and Dorothy (Spencer) Petsel. She attended elementary school in Oskaloosa and attended Roosevelt High School in Des Moines graduating in 1962. Carol received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Education from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa in 1966. She married Keith Wegner on March 29, 1969 in West Des Moines, Iowa. Carol was an Elementary School Teacher for several years teaching at Sacred Heart Catholic School in West Des Moines, Iowa and also St. Peters Catholic School in Omaha, Nebraska. Carol and Keith moved to Cherokee in 1975 where Carol taught at Garfield Elementary School for 1 year. She began providing child care services and greatly enjoyed working with children, drawing and painting, reading, and spending time with her family.

Carol was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in which she participated in several things including teaching C.C.D. for 18 years, Faith Formation Program. Carol was also a member of the Befrienders Program and the American Cancer Society.

She is survived by her husband, Keith; a son, Dr. Brian Wegner and his wife, Bridget Coughlin, and their son, Edward, of Denver, Colorado; a daughter, Elizabeth Wegner and her husband, Carl Benker, and their expected baby of Glastonbury, Connecticut; a brother, Lee Petsel and his wife, Ruth, of Annapolis, Missouri; two sisters, Marlene Fritz and her husband, George, of Green Lake, Wisconsin; Pat Mills and her husband, Joe, of Plainsfield, Illinois.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
