Paul Eugene Eagen

Paul Eugene Eagen, 73, of Cherokee, Iowa, died Saturday September 27, 2008 in his home, following a lengthy illness.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, October 11, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. in the Memorial Presbyterian Church, Cherokee, Iowa. Rev. Ethan Sayler will officiate. As per Paul’s wishes, his body was donated to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Greenwood Funeral Home, Cherokee, Iowa is in charge of arrangements. Paul was born April 9, 1935 in Carroll, Iowa to Orah and Blanche (Mcleran) Eagen. He was raised on a farm in Audubon County. In 1947 he moved to Audubon, Iowa and attended Audubon Public Schools, graduating from high school in 1953. Paul participated in football, basketball, and baseball. He attended Westmar College, earning a degree in Natural Science and also varsity letters in basketball and baseball. On March 10, 1957 he married Sandra Williamson in Audubon, Iowa. Following graduation from college, Paul taught and coached at Sulphur Springs, Iowa. In 1960 the Eagens moved to Cherokee, Iowa where Paul taught and coached for many years in the Wilson Junior High School. Paul married Judy Tschetter on September 5, 1987.

Paul was active in Little League Baseball, Boy Scouts, Little Sioux Wildlife Club, and the Memorial Presbyterian Church. Paul enjoyed most sports. High on Paul’s list was catfishing while canoeing on the Little Sioux River. Paul was a long time member of the Sioux Valley Match Play Golf Tournament committee.

Survivors include his sons, Stephen Troy Eagen, and his wife, Marla, of Rochester, Minnesota; Shawn Patrick Eagen, and his wife, Cheryl, of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; his daughter, Katherine Lynn Rupp, and her husband, James, of Indianola, Iowa; 8 grandchildren; a sister, Betty; and brothers, Joe, John, and Patrick; and a special friend, Dorothy Wilkie.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Phyllis.
